CACFO UK has teamed up with ‘Our Hours’ to deliver hot meals to elders and other protected groups during Covid-19 lockdown.

Lockdown hit CACFO UK’s Elders hard and many other protected groups of people such as people with Sickle Cell Anaemia.

All of CACFO’s elders were of an age that required them to stay home. Our Adult Day Centre has therefore been closed since March 2020. However we have continued to provide them where demanded with one hot nutritious meal each week and a bag of groceries to help out during the rest of the week.

To deliver this service, CACFO UK has teamed up with ‘Our Hours’ a voluntarily organisation run by community volunteer Barbara McLaughlin. Her project is longstanding but since the start of COVID-19 she has ramped it up, working with Government sponsored food provider, Fareshare, to provide culturally sensitive meals across South London to meet demand from vulnerable groups.

Partnership with CACFO UK has enabled the project to reach elders in Thornton Heath and elsewhere in Croydon, aided and assisted by other Croydon’s illustrious Windrush Charities.  Meals have ranged from Jerk Chicken, Stew Peas, Curry Goat and Ackee and Salt Fish, to Pasta Bake and Chef’s (Percy) speciality veggie balls. Grocery bags have included easily prepared meals enough for up to five further days.

If you are an Elder or know an Elder in need of assistance with meals during the Covid-19 lockdown or know someone who is otherwise on the Government’s list of protected groups and is in need of help, please contact CACFO UK via our website.

Thank, as ever, go to all involved including our wonderful team of volunteers. Don’t forget to join our online reminiscing sessions which take place at 2pm every Tuesday. Just follow the link.
